why poetics-not-poetics?

the word “poetics” tends to be used in two senses / either it describes a treatise or theory of poetry and aesthetics or it describes the particular practice of a poet or writer / I want to keep both definitions alive in order to suggest a commitment to both theory and practice / furthermore, I consider (along with Aristotle, Coleridge, Shelley, Emily Dickinson, and Charles Olson) a poetics to be nearly synonymous with an ethics or a way of life…
